Nikola Štoković, DM, PhD, Asisstant Professor, Department of Anatomy and Clinical Anatomy, Laboratory for Mineralized Tissues, Centre for Translational and Clinical Research, School of Medicine, University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia.
His expertise is bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) biology and their application in tissue engineering and bone regeneration. He has been recognized for leading preclinical studies on synthetic calcium phosphate ceramics combined with the osteoinductive rhBMP6, elucidating the mechanisms of BMP-mediated osteogenesis and the structural properties of newly formed bone across different animal models. These studies were conducted within projects of the Center of Excellence for Reproductive and Regenerative Medicine and the EU Horizon 2020 project OSTEOproSPINE, where he served as a co-leader of several work packages. He is currently the principal investigator of the EU/NPOO-funded project “Development of an advanced bone regeneration therapy based on rhBMP6 and bisphosphonates – OsteoFusion” (2025–2029).
