Prof Itamar Levinger

Prof Levinger (PhD, MSc, B.Ed, AEP, FASBMR, FESSA) is the Leader of the Bone-Muscle-Cardiovascular Research Group and the Associate Director for Research and Research Training at the Institute for Health and Sport (IHES), Victoria University. Prof Levinger is world-renowned for his work on bone-muscle cross-talk and the contribution of the skeleton to metabolic and cardiovascular health as well as ageing related diseases including sarcopenia. He developed extensive knowledge, skills, and experience in exercise rehabilitation for patients with cardiovascular and metabolic diseases and muscle metabolism and cell signalling in humans and murine models. Prof Levinger has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He led the Australian Position Statement (exercise guidelines for patients with chronic heart failure, 2026 and co-authored recommendations for policy change and greater interaction and collaborations between allied health professional and medical doctors.
