A/Prof Frances Milat

Associate Professor Frances Milat is an endocrinologist and researcher with expertise in osteoporosis, metabolic bone disorders and women’s health. She is Head of the Metabolic Bone Research Group, Hudson Institute, where she leads a research program focused on bone health in chronic disease. She is also the Head of the Metabolic Bone Service at Monash Health. Under her leadership, her clinical and research group has grown to a thriving program where she has mentored a new generation of bone endocrinologists and researchers in bone management across the lifespan, including neurological disability, haematological disorders, cancer, early menopause, diabetes, renal failure and transplantation. Her PhD students have won multiple international and national awards for research excellence (total awards >50) and Fran has received the Endocrine Society of Australia’s Outstanding Clinical Practitioner Award, ESA Mid-Career Award, ANZBMS Kaye Ibbertson Award and the Monash Health Senior Medical Staff Role Model Award. Fran was a Councillor for the Endocrine Society of Australia and currently serves on the Medical & Scientific Advisory Committee for Healthy Bones Australia. Fran also has a keen interest in the medical humanities.
